What is Sorrel?
Sorrel is an iOS app for collecting recipes and planning the week’s meals. You bring in recipes from links, cookbook photos, plain text, or Sorrel’s small in-house catalog. Pick the ones you’re cooking, and Sorrel rolls their ingredients into a single grocery list grouped by aisle. When it’s time to cook, a step-by-step mode keeps your hands free. It’s built by an independent developer and is currently in private beta.

Common questions
How do I add a recipe?
Tap the “+” on the home screen and pick a path: paste a link from NYT Cooking, Allrecipes, or a food blog; snap a photo of a cookbook page; type it in by hand; or browse the Sorrel kitchen and import one. Whichever path you pick, Sorrel parses the ingredients into clean quantities behind the scenes.
How do I delete my account?
Open the app, go to Account Settings, scroll to the bottom, and tap Delete account. You’ll be asked to confirm, and then your account and the recipes, plans, and grocery lists tied to it are removed. This can’t be undone. If you’re locked out of the app and can’t get to the screen, email support@trysorrel.com from the address tied to your account and we’ll do it manually.
A recipe I imported looks wrong.
Recipe parsing is AI-driven, so the occasional ingredient gets mangled or a step gets skipped — especially with handwritten cookbook photos or unusual page layouts. Email us with the recipe title and what was off and we’ll take a look. Your reports are how the parsing prompts and the ingredient catalog improve.
Is my data shared with AI providers?
When you import a recipe, its content (the webpage, photo, or text you brought in) is sent to OpenAI and Anthropic so they can extract and structure it into ingredients and steps. Your name, email, and Apple user ID are not sent. Full details are in our Privacy Policy.
